Roger Hall is New Zealand's most successful playwright. His 1976 play Glide Time became a sellout hit. Later Hall turned this satire of bureaucrats into Gliding On, New Zealand television's most successful sitcom. His second play Middle Aged Spread became an acclaimed film in 1979. Hall went on to write marital comedy Conjugal Rites for English television. His TV work spans four decades, from writing to performing.

Biography

English-born Roger Hall says he is "most definitely a New Zealand writer". Alongside more than 40 plays, Hall has written, performed and acted on Kiwi television, and created Gliding On, the country's most successful sitcom. Celebrated —  and sometimes attacked — for his uncanny ability to reflect the concerns of the Kiwi middle class, Hall has chronicled marriage, parenthood, ageing, rugby, farming and the sharemarket.
