Matty McLean has been a friendly face on television news in Aotearoa for over a decade. After studying Broadcast Journalism at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, McLean built his career as a reporter on Close Up, 20/20, The Project, One News and Breakfast. He then headed to London to work for news channel Al Jazeera, returning in 2017 to become Breakfast's weather presenter. His popularity in the role saw him compete on Celebrity Treasure Island and win the public vote for Television Personality of the Year at the NZ TV Awards in 2019. In 2022 he added a reporting gig on A Current Affair to his busy schedule.
