Nikki Castle (formerly Nicola) began her career as an editor, achieving recognition at the 2011 NZ Television awards for cutting award-winners The Green Chain and Whare Taonga. After directing a slew of music videos for Lisa Crawley, Castle directed Loading Docs short Madness Made Me, and joined a team of directors on documentary shows Both Worlds and Anthems — amongst other credits. She now splits her time between Auckland and Melbourne, and also works as a director/editor in Australia, largely for documentary and branded content. Castle holds a Masters in Screen Production from Auckland University and also teaches.
I wanted to make a film that was against the typical story of mental health ... I wanted to suggest that the experience of madness is one that can have value in and of itself — to an individual but also for society at large. Nikki Castle talks about Madness Made Me, on website Women for One, September 2015
