Tim Worrall

Writer, Director [Ngai Tūhoe, Te Arawa]

Helping out friend Niki Caro on Whale Rider prompted Māori artist Tim Worrall to focus his energies on the screen industry. The Elam Art School graduate returned to university to study scriptwriting in Wellington, after providing feedback on the script for Caro's hit film. Since finishing his Master of Arts in 2007, Worrall has gone on to write and direct award-winning short Tits on a Bull, direct on comedy show Only in Aotearoa and write for teen series This is Piki. In 2017 he worked on two Loading Docs, and wrote and directed on rugby drama Head High in 2020. In 2022, Worrall was one of the writers and directors of anthology feature We Are Still Here.

It was clear to me that my main inspiration in my creative life was my Tūhoe side. Tim Worrall on moving to the Bay of Plenty after finishing art school, The Wireless, 9 June 2014
