Kiwi Soaps

It is time to pull back the curtains on classic Kiwi TV soaps of yesteryear. Soap operas officially hit NZ television in 1975: two of them did actually, although Close to Home was the one that lasted (A Going Concern was the one that didn't). The other longstayers in this Spotlight collection are Shortland Street (thirty years, and still going strong) and beloved 80s glamour soap Gloss. Elsewhere in the collection, check out early performances by Karl Urban and Charles Mesure, and memories from the casts of Gloss, Shortland Street and Close to Home. Serial Killers closes the loop with a serial about a soap opera, and This Is Piki showcases the genre through a te ao Māori lens.
