...we have had contemporary waiata right through: 80s, 90s, 2000s, but it certainly wasn’t given the kudos or the support. And now our kids are able to express themselves through waiata reo Māori without any inhibition and without any pushback.

Arā koia, ko te . . . ko te waiata te reo Māori, koinā te take kei kōnei māua tahi, e mahi ana ēnei mahi, ko te hakatairanga i te reo, ko te hakatairanga i te ahurewa Māori.  Nō reira, āe, he hōnore nui. /... yeah, Māori music is the reason we're here and doing what we're doing, to showcase out language and to advocate for the Māori culture.
