Cargo

Short Film (Full Length) – 2007

M
Mature
I couldn’t try and confront a topic as large as child trafficking in a short film, so it simply became about one child’s experience, and his desire for survival. I’m interested in what human beings do in order to survive, and how they can lose the essence of who they are in the process.
– Director Leo Woodhead
Probably one of the most original ideas to make it onto film in the last few years of Homegrown short film selections, Leo Woodhead’s Cargo is not only set in the Czech Republic but is also in Czech with English subtitles!
– Jacob Powell, 2008 Lumiere Reader review of the film's NZ festival screening
Weirdly — one of the main advantages of being a New Zealand filmmaker overseas was the association to The Lord of the Rings. I could barely speak the language — but the moment I told people where I was from, their eyes would light up.
– Leo Woodhead, on shooting in the Czech Republic
