Comprised of a rotating line-up of siblings, cousins, and friends, Herma Keil and The Keil Isles were a cornerstone of Aotearoa’s early rock 'n' roll scene. Originally from Samoa, the Keils built a reputation as a hard-working and slick live band in Auckland throughout the mid 1950s to late 1960s. While their recording career largely consisted of covers of popular international songs such as 'Deep Purple' and 'The Twist', they were also the inaugural winners of the APRA Silver Scroll songwriting award for 'Teardrops', written by Wayne Kent-Healey. Singers (and siblings) Herma and Eliza Keil both went on to pursue solo careers in the late 1960s.
