Homegrown Profiles: The Finns

I was sharing a place at a Mission Bay with Phil Judd and we just started writing songs one night. I can still remember the night. We wrote two songs that night: 'For You' which was our first single and 'Split Enz' which was our kind of theme song.

We found out later the sound mixer had taken it upon himself to leave Neil out of the mix out front, because we were listening to some live tapes and there was no electric guitar on it and were absolutely astonished that he would have done that. It certainly wasn't under instruction from us.

There was all this great energy that had come from this session that Tim and I had, this songwriting session, and yet that album was sort of set off into the future and I didn't know when we'd get around to it. It was actually playing havoc with me because I was trying to finish a Crowded House record and thinking "Here's these great songs. I'd rather be doing these."
