I’m a mum that’s raising children speaking te reo Māori, something that I did not grow up with but that my children are growing up with. I’m constantly thinking about the world they’re growing up in… sometimes we’re in an environment that doesn’t imagine a future for Māori, so it’s really important for me, as an artist, to keep projecting those visions. To keep imagining Māori success, Māori thriving, and to proclaim it in the form of song. To put it in people’s mouths so they can proclaim it over themselves.
