Play it Strange - 2007

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2007

It's tough going in the judges' room for this episode of documentary series Play It Strange. A panel of songwriters and music personalities like Jordan Luck, Hamish Jackson, C4 music show host Jane Yee and Play It Strange Trust founder Mike Chunn must decide which of five promising acts has won the 2007 Play it Strange high school songwriting competition. The  contenders include 2006 winner Anna Macdonald, Wellingtonian Louis Baker with his "amazing voice" and a Hutt Valley duo with their buzzy, Britpop-like track 'Commuter Train'. At the award ceremony the finalists see their songs re-interpreted by professionals.

Production can get you so far, but it's all about the song, the melody at the end — what do you hear at the end of the day? You put the track down, you walk away and it's still whispering in your head...
– Play it Strange judge and 'rock legend' Jordan Luck
