Sunday - The Topp Twins

Television (Excerpts) – 2022

We've always had a rule that we get photographed together and we get interviewed together. And this was the first time that I have had to do this ... Yesterday I was a little bit frightened about that whole thing, that Jools wouldn't be here
– Lynda Topp on being interviewed without her sister
When we started out we didn’t know what kind of career we were going to have because you never do when you start out I suppose. But as time went on, we realised that New Zealand kind of liked us. There was a lot going on in New Zealand at that time. It’s been quite a long time since there has been an act like the Topp Twins in New Zealand – where you’ve got someone who is political, who is prepared to stand up for their politics, to be openly lesbian (like us) in the 80s.
– Jools Topp reflects on the way New Zealand embraced the Topp Twins, Stuff, 1 December 2022
Yeah, we're in synch ... in not the greatest way, but we're back in synch...
– Lynda Topp on her and her sister Jools both getting diagnosed with cancer, at the start of this report
Everyone should have a she-shed.
– Lynda Topp sits down before the cameras in her 'she-shed'
She’s a glam chick...she’s probably asked herself, :"Why the hell did I have two lesbians who dress up as men?"
– Jools Topp on her "trooper' of a Mum, Jean Topp, Stuff, 1 December 2022
If I can hold a guitar and stand in front of a mike, there'll be no stopping me.
– Jools Topp on being determined to celebrate her and Lynda's 40th year as entertainers
It was a beautiful night for us. Jools and I just kept staring at each other going, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing’. When Anika Moa walked out and sang Calf Cub Day, there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience.
– Lynda Topp on celebratory 2022 TV special Topp Class, Stuff, 1 December 2022
We were country kids, we sang country music, we yodelled, we were lesbians, we were funny; that combination is weird . . . for the start, you know, lesbians and country music? That's not supposed to go together.
– Lynda Topp sums up the "weird" mix that makes Topp Twins magic
There's only two types of people in the world: there are horsey people, and non-horsey people.
– Horse-lover Jools Topp
I've been given all this beautiful stuff from my parents that can make me go through this. You know, they made us strong. They don't know it, but they did.
– Jools Topp on the gift of her childhood and parents
My job is you know, to play the guitar; make sure the music's right. And Lynda is, she's looking at the crowd. Making sure the crowd's with us...
– Lynda Topp on her role in the Topp Twins
