The Gravy - Series Four, Episode 12 (Paint)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2009

When you look at a painting you don’t obviously think ‘this is a vertical work, why isn’t it all falling off the surface?’. My work is really wanting to play with that idea, that the paint has melted off or fallen off or formed off the surface of the work.
– Helen Calder
My use of paint as a product is probably quite unconventional, it’s not archival, I’m not designing paintings that are going to last for a hundred years.
– Ally Maher
There’s quite a strong aspect of illusion within my paintings. The original object has been extracted out of the paint but there remains this empty shell. As the paint skins collapse I’m looking at the undermining of the object, collapsing it, making it disappear.
– Glen Burrell
