Tina Cross

[Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Porou]

Raised in Ōtara, Tina Cross, ONZM, first performed on television as a teenager on shows including Ready to Roll and Smile, and was named Rising Star at the 1978 RIANZ Awards. In 1979 Cross broke through with a run of hit singles, including 'Nothing But Dreams', which won the Pacific Song Contest. In that same year she released her debut album You Can Do It, followed by Tina X in 1980. She later became lead singer of Australian pop group Koo De Tah, before returning to New Zealand in the 90s. In 2005 she co-founded harmony group The Lady Killers with Suzanne Lynch and Jackie Clarke, and released solo album Lay Down Your Heart in 2014.
