The Auckland speedboat Super Sonic was designed, built and driven by Carl Augustin, who had also designed and built Avenger which was in the same race. His son Ron Augustin (also a boat designer and marine engineer) also raced Super Sonic in Wellington from 1953. Conditions like this made it extremely hard to keep the boats from flipping. Ron enjoyed watching this newsreel, thanks.
