Best Thing

Steve Abel wrote Best Thing twenty years before recording it for his second album Luck/Hope. The song features violin and harmonies by American musician Jolie Holland. Abel has enjoyed a long creative relationship with director Florian Habicht, including contributing to Habicht's idiosyncratic breakthrough feature Woodenhead. Habicht shot this video in Berlin. It captures two lovers in varied moments of intimacy — and offers the possibility that it might all be memory or fantasy. The couple are played by US-UK writer Arielle Bier and Dutch theatre director Orion Maxted. 

The video was entirely Florian's reaction to that song. He came up with that idea, with those two lovers in a room together, and the intimacy in it feels really authentic, somehow. He met those two actors in Berlin and shot it there, and I'm really stoked with how it turned out.
