This never broadcast episode collects the best moments from season one of Gibson Group's 'prosthetically enhanced' comedy show. There's digs galore at media personalities and politicians. The writers have fun placing veteran broadcaster Paul Holmes (brilliantly played by Grant Walker) and his rival John Campbell (Cohen Holloway) in the ring, for a send-up of celebrity boxing match Fight for Life. Don Brash (Alan Brunton) imagines a New Zealand under the rule of 'the Don', and former PM David Lange pops in to show Helen Clark (Lorae Parry) how to tell a tale.
We wanted to evolve the whole Public Eye concept, which was those great big rubbery puppets they had back in the 80s, and see if we could achieve caricatures that had real human eyes and which could move around in a real environment.– Facelift producer Chris Ellis, in an interview with the NZ Herald, 1 July 2004
