Hero image for Heartland - Gore

Heartland - Gore

Television (Full Length Episode) – 1993

Occasional Heartland host Maggie Barry heads to the deep south to visit Gore. Barry checks out horseshoeing with the New Zealand Farriers Association, visits the local freezing works, and attends the legendary NZ Gold Guitar Awards (Barry sees performer Suzanne Prentice on stage). The country music ceremony has been held annually in Gore since its inception in 1974. Barry's trip to Gore was a low key affair compared to the controversial visit by a TV crew some years later by Havoc and Newsboy's Sell-Out Tour, which enraged some locals with comments made by Mikey Havoc and Jeremy Wells.

I think probably the main motivation was that I didn't see local government as being business or service orientated, I saw it pretty much as being a bureaucratic monolith.
– Inky Tulloch on why he decided to enter local body politics
