Smooth, soulful and full of feeling, 'Murimuri Aroha' is the first te reo Māori waiata from Ngāti Maniapoto musician REED. (Sasha Te Whare). The song blends R&B influences with intimate lyrics exploring love and distance, inspired by Reed’s experience of his partner leaving to pursue her career. In this video, REED. performs a rendition of the song in a stylish home recording studio, layering multiple tracks, cutting between Te Whare playing different instruments and singing each vocal part. The song was written during APRA’s Reo Māori SongHubs for the Waiata Anthems series, with translation assistance from Dr Hona Black.
