Aotearoa acting veterans Elizabeth McRae and Ian Mune barely speak a word in this performance-driven short film, that communicates a lot, with very little. Elderly couple Stella (Elizabeth McRae) and Stanley (Ian Mune) have gotten dressed up to dine at a restaurant, and small clues indicate this is both a very significant, and very sad, moment. Stella does her best to enjoy the time with Stanley, but struggles with losing her beloved to a degenerative brain disease — as well as what is planned for later that day. Written and directed by Alison Titulaer, the film enjoyed international and local festival coverage.
A perfect distillation of what short films can do, even if the subject is one that is well-travelled.– Critic Dan Slevin, Radio New Zealand website, 5 October 2023
