High Road (Lightbox Season One)

Web (Full Length Episode) – 2013

Episode One
Terry Huffer (Mark Mitchinson) is an ageing English rock star, whose partying has got out of control. After his famous sister Emma Thompson (yes, that Emma Thompson) and her husband Greg Wise (Greg Wise) give him the hard word, Terry moves to Aotearoa to be closer to his estranged wife and daughter.

Episode Two
After a rocky start in New Zealand, Terry begins to connect with the small beachside township of Piha, and has a life-changing interaction with local equestrienne Shona (Danielle Mason).

Episode Three
One year on, Terry is settled in Piha and running a community radio station from a caravan. But his personal life continues to be messy — not least because of his unrequited love for Shona. More mayhem ensues when Terry sets up a live stream to his radio show, and his old drummer Warren (Rob Dollars) and sweet local councillor Brian (Peter Muller) make a surprise visit.

Episode Four
Terry’s estranged wife Belinda (Luanne Gordon) turns up at his caravan radio station, for a hard conversation about money. Things get messy when Terry and his longtime crush Shona are left alone together at the pub…. and the cheap beer is flowing.

Episode Five
Terry runs into trouble with the Broadcast Standards Authority, and his radio station is shut down. A new job at another small station looks to be a dream come true — until he realises the station and its manager Roger (Greg Johnson) are deeply Christian (and bigoted).

Episode Six
Terry’s estranged wife has news for him — it’s his turn to take their sulky teenage daughter Rain (Sydney Lehman). Terry’s personal life is still mayhem; a date with Sharon (Alex Jordan) is intercepted by Shona and fellow DJ Topher (Sean Eden).

Episode Seven
Terry is surprised by a visit from his old flame Camilla (Jennifer Ward-Lealand), the daughter of his manager. It turns out he is contractually obliged to go on tour. Terry says goodbye to the Christian radio station with a drug-induced blow-out on air.

Episode Eight
Terry is back on the road, and life as a musician is as hectic as he remembered. Linking up with old 'friends' like David 'Tex' Rainger (Erroll Shand) provide the perfect reminder of why he gave it all up. Returning to Piha with a new perspective, Terry begins to make amends with the important people in his life.
