A Familiar Feeling

Short Film (Full Length) – 2019

We had sleep both nights and actually finished our film with enough time on the Sunday to go make a home cooked meal before we handed it in. We had a really small team this year — it just made things efficient, everybody was on the same page. It was just one of those years where there were no dramas. Everything just happened and it was easy.

I do think the Christchurch community around the competition is probably one of the strongest in the country. The community is just so enthusiastic. It's awesome to finally take down the big title for Christchurch.
– Director Julian Vares on getting a win for Canterbury at the 2019 48 Hour Film Festival, Stuff, 18 August 2019
This is a real 'stars aligned' situation, with Christchurch prodigal son Hamish Parkinson BORN to play a main character in a cringe comedy ... you don't get sound design this good, usually, with teams this small. And the sound design is of course complimented by the *perfect* cinematography, the *hilarious* performances and a story which adheres just as well to the genre as the actors. I think you guys 100% deserved all the awards you won ... the film gets a lot of mileage out of some very simple scenes.
