There were 3 entries published in the Lake Wakatip Mail titled "A. J. BARRINGTON'S DIARY OF THE WEST COAST PROSPECTING PARTY."
Lake Wakatip Mail, Issue 123, 2 July 1864, (1st November, 1863 - 4th Januray, 1864)
Lake Wakatip Mail, Issue 125, 9 July 1864, (March 30th - May 3rd, 1864 )
Lake Wakatip Mail, Issue 127, 16 July 1864, (May 4th - 12th June, 1864)
The section between January 4th and March 30th wasn't published in this newspaper. However In this documentary they quote Barrington at 11:50;
"March the 17th -- The mountians being very steep, the water rushes down as fast as it falls. The river thus rising and falling quickly. At about 9 o'clock at night, we were forced to clear out of the tent, pack up our provisions and swags and put them up in a tree; we having taken to the bush for our lives"
Then again;
"March 29th -- Started propecting this morning, the creeks look very well for gold, splended quartz boulders and a fine wash. Could not get to the bottom anywhere as it's too deep."
A later quote made from the 6th of April is actually jumbled up extracts from various dairy entries around those days.
Can anyone illumintate what the real story is and where you can find the missing diary entires?
