Episode One
This first episode is dedicated to the infamous 'dildo incident' at Waitangi on 5 February 2016, when political activist Josie Butler scored a direct hit on then-MP Steven Joyce's chin with an illicit toy. Presenter Hayden Donnell, accompanied by his reluctant director Jóse Barbosa, travels to Northland to meet Butler and track down the "squeaky pecker" that generated global headlines. Hayden's mission leads him to a local landfill.
Episode Two
Hayden is hot on the trail of 1990s supermarket chain Big Fresh's animatronic fruit and vegetables. Commentators Guy Williams, Angella Dravid and Lucy Zee recall their childhood fear and fascination for the "haunting" plastic sculptures. Hayden locates some of the prized produce on the North Shore and hopes a surprise cameo from an iconic Kiwi will sway the fruit and veges' owner into getting them to Te Papa.
Episode Three
This episode focuses on another 1990s relic, Huntly's famous DEKA sign. Hayden and Jóse attempt to persuade Huntly residents to relinquish their landmark and gift it to Te Papa, but find little support among the tight-knit locals. Hayden meets with Sid Patel, a community 'legend' and the legal guardian of the sign. Hayden's desire to get the sign to Te Papa changes as he learns more about its significance to the town.
Episode Four
A true story of passion and pain. Once named the world's creepiest Christmas ornament, Auckland's giant Santa has lived many lives. 'Santa Saviour' Stephen Hanford spent a large amount of time — and money — getting the five-tonne, 18-metre-high King of Queen Street Christmas back on its feet. The NZ-famous wink and finger wag combo surely has earned a place at Te Papa, and love is found in the eye of the beholder… of the eye.
Episode Five
To convince Te Papa that the Eye of Santa is a national artefact, Hayden calls in a trump card: TV sales savant Suzanne Paul. In the process of trying to recruit Suzanne to help him deposit Santa's eye in the museum's collection, Hayden realises he’s been staring another cultural treasure in the face this whole time. It's time to get Suzanne Paul to Te Papa.
Episode Six
The famous 'Lets Gone Warriors' sign is Hayden's new obsession. He flies the man, the myth, the legend — and maker of the sign — Tyson Elia over from Brisbane to find out how it all started. An emotional handover takes place in the presence of Tyson, his cousin and former Warriors player and fan of the sign, Ben Henry. Hayden and Jóse finally hit the road to get all the priceless Kiwi icons to Te Papa.
