In this Intrepid Journey, sports broadcaster John McBeth heads to Venezuela. Despite a 10-hour trip to see the world's tallest waterfall, Angel Falls — which is nearly 1000 metres tall — he is energised by its magnificence. He takes a quick trip into neighbouring Brazil for lunch, faces an encounter with an unusual pet, and visits a dangerous gold mining operation. In the Orinoco Delta, the local villages preserve a culture from a time long gone. The wildlife enthralls McBeth, from piranhas to toucans to monkeys. Despite getting sick and not getting enough sleep, McBeth is grinning from ear to ear at the end of his trip.
My journey takes me from the capital Caracas to the world's highest waterfall, down to the Brazilian border, and then into the jungle of the Orinoco Delta, ending on the shores of the Caribbean.– Presenter John McBeth lays out the itinerary at the start of the show
