It's Christmas Eve in South Auckland, and Matai (Unaloto Funaki) and Sam (Sieni Leo’o Olo) are on a mission to locate their grandmother’s music box — for very different reasons. This family-friendly movie is a comical race against the clock as the search spirals out of control. Mama’s Music Box was made from scratch in just 30 days in a self-imposed challenge by Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa and his producer sister Abba Rose. The duo previously created Pasifika movies Take Home Pay and Hibiscus & Ruthless. Yvonne Maea-Brown (who acted in Take Home Pay) takes the role of Mama.
The hardest part for us was the scriptwriting, we were going back and forth the first week to 10 days just trying to nail down the story and also just trying to make sure that our community, our people would want to see. But what we came out of it with is something really special.– Director Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa on making Mama's Music Box in 30 days, Tagata Pasifika website, 20 November 2020
