McPhail & Gadsby - Best of Series Five

Television (Full Length) – 1983

You had him banned in Bombay, purged in Peking, and muzzled in Melbourne. We've got him here tonight, the man you loved to hate.
– This is Your Life host Eamon Andrews (Jon Gadsby) introduces Rob Muldoon's final guest (in clip four)
Just remember, impotence is the man's way of striking back!
– Charlie Bull (David McPhail) accepts his Man of the Year award at the Male Backlash Awards (the opening sketch)
Yes well I did help preserve the Chatham Islands black robin, I've actively opposed selective logging and indeed selectively opposed active logging, and I've travelled down wild and scenic rivers in a small rubber dingy with Jacques Cousteau.
– Politician Ian Shearer (Jon Gadsby) mentions the TV appearances that make him the perfect person to be Minister of Broadcasting (in clip three)
Absolutely fantastic. When I worked with them there was never any shit ... There was no arguments or fighting or anyone getting upset or anyone flying off ... The whole team, every time he worked was excellent. I haven't got a bad word to say about it. We just had fun all the time. And he was so appreciative of everything that I did.
– Actor Lynn Waldegrave on working with David McPhail, in her interview for TV series Funny As
...the cast, writers and key crew assemble in a small meeting room for a so-called rehearsal. It's a timed read-through really and an opportunity to test the sketches for laugh value. The meeting room is in the middle of a suite of offices occupied by upper management and accountant types. The walls are thin and the test is if you can hear them laughing in their offices, then the sketch will work.
– Director/producer John Lye, in his backgrounder on this show
