Perfect Storm is a poetic short film that captures the sense of isolation born from the Covid-19 lockdowns. Filmed on a strikingly empty beach on Auckland’s west coast, it stars multi-disciplinary artist Pita Turei and the young Te Hookioi Graham-Reid. With no rigid narrative or dialogue (aside from a real government announcement), director Morag Brownlie creates an atmospheric piece that explores Turei's solitude, helped by Sean Donnelly's (SJD) moody score and vocals from the New Zealand Opera. Perfect Storm screened as part of the 2022 New Zealand International Film Festival and enjoyed success at international festivals.
