Interview – 2011

Martin Devlin’s first screen appearance involved playing a policeman in a film shot in Taranaki he can’t remember the name of it, but is fairly sure it wasn’t a hit. Following success as a radio broadcaster, Devlin made his first foray into television via a rugby panel for Sky TV, before hosting House of Football. He became a familiar TV face as part of mad-cap game show Game of Two Halves, beating Peter Urlich to finish second to last on Dancing with the Stars, and hosting World Cup rugby and footage coverage on TV One.

In this ScreenTalk interview, Devlin talks about:

  • His first TV appearance
  • His favourite memories from House of Football
  • Why he chose to compete on Dancing with the Stars
  • His experiences on the show
  • Behind-the-scenes antics on Game of Two Halves
  • How he landed the job hosting coverage of the Football World Cup
  • His impressions of his role hosting Rugby World Cup 2011 coverage for TV One

What's the worst thing that can happen: it's a dinner party story in six weeks, and you make a dick of yourself on TV. Well I've done that for ten years with Game Of Two Halves, so I thought 'I'll do it'.
– Martin Devlin on deciding to compete on TV show Dancing With The Stars
