Former model Ido Drent first won fan following in 2009 after joining Shortland Street, taking over the role of Daniel Potts, who experienced homelessness, brain injury after assault, and revelations about his parents. In 2012 the South African-born actor moved to Australia, landing the role of a therapist in hit show Offspring. he played drummer Jon Farriss in miniseries INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, before returning to New Zealand to play a land court lawyer turned military officer in WWl miniseries When We Go to War in 2015, and a detective in crime drama series The Gulf. Drent is also director of property development company Elaman.
...it was my first show, and I remember the first day just being terrified, and being terrible, because I had no idea what I was doing. So three and a half years on that, doing 30, 40 scenes a week, you just learn so quickly. You're doing an episode a day. So as an actor I feel like it was very much baptism by fire, and I'm very grateful for that. Ido Drent on Shortland Street, in his Screentalk interview with NZ On Screen, January 2016
