Jason Smith

Composer

Composer, writer, and actor Jason Smith fell in love with music as a preschooler. At 15, his first musical played at Auckland's Basement Theatre. Smith honed his theatrical skills in an improv company, working extensively in New Zealand and Australia. His composing credits include TV comedies Serial KillersThe Jaquie Brown Diaries and Super City, and feature-length documentaries The Nuclear Comeback, Love, Speed and Loss and Never Look Away. Smith was music editor on fantasy shows Legend of the Seeker, Rings of Power and Time Bandits. In 2019 he wrote, directed and performed in award-winning short Pride and Joy.

What I love most about my work as a composer is the opportunity to contribute collaboratively to the telling of stories. A film, television or theatre production is a community, and it's the most enriching, human thing to be invited into these communities to share a creative experience that reflects back into the world.
