Luke Buda

Composer

Multi-instrumentalist Luke Buda makes music through many outlets; as a member of The Phoenix Foundation, with his Taite-nominated solo work, and as a screen composer. Buda, aka Lukasz Pawel Buda, moved to New Zealand from Poland at age eight. He began collaborating with Conrad Wedde and Samuel Scott at high school. Alongside founding The Phoenix Foundation, the trio have worked together on many scores; perhaps most famously with the music for Taika Waititi movies Boy, Eagle vs Shark and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Buda's television credits include Until Proven Innocent and Wellington Paranormal

Buda works full-time composing in his small, slightly leaky, garage studio in Wellington’s Aro Valley surrounded by a modest collection of guitars, a few vintage synths and his computer workstation. Writer Bill Hickman describes Luke Buda's home studio, Stuff, 30 March 2022
