My primary school in the very late 1980s/early 1990s was one of the type that had one long building with several classrooms, and a hallway that ran down the length of the building. One side of the hallway was completely lined with School Journals dating right back to the 1960s. I read through every one of them, many of them multiple times. One Journal had an article about the making of Cuckoo Land, and had pictures of how some of the chromakey effects were done (such as with the lips letterbox). The show presumably aired only the one time, in 1985, so I never saw it, but I occasionally thought about it and wished I could see it. Well, now I have... and I'm rather conflicted about it. On one hand it was made for a far younger audience (I'm 40 now), so it's really not my cup of tea. On the other hand, it's such a creative piece of chaos with cutting edge graphics technology (for the time) that I can appreciate it, and I actually started enjoying the story. The best part is Paul Holmes' narration -- his brand of sarkiness and how he ties the story elements together is superb. It's a shame that the rest of the series isn't available, but I'm glad that I've at least seen part of it.

Wow! Wonderful throwback to one of the more surreal and off-the-wall TV shows I ever saw as a kid. Love it!
