Lynn of Tawa Show - First Episode

Television – 1982

In this vanilla envelope I have half a dozen of Mum's stuffed wontons. They're absolutely lovely, eh. They're completely impregnated with you know, prunes and cabbage leaves. Mum reckons just, you know, pass them around and help keep the show running smoothly.
– Lynn offers her audience a present from her talented Mum
You know when old Satan has the ball there's nothing he hates worse than the old stiff-arm tackle, my goodness me ... and if he screws the scrum of righteousness just give him the straight old uppercut and rake him all over with the sprigs of good works.

– Lynn ( Ginette McDonald) introduces an interview with legendary British broadcaster Michael Parkinson
It was older brother Michael, who was always very gentle in quite a rough-and-tumble environment, to whom she was particularly close, most alike. So much so that they became a creative team, with Michael writing the voice of her gum-chewing, vowel-mangling Lyn of Tawa.
– Excerpt from an interview about Ginette and Michael McDonald's creative partnership Stuff, August 2019
People do call me Lyn. They do. It's flattering, I suppose ... On the whole, they mean well. I remember when Lyn was in her heyday, a lot of people thought they were better than Lyn. If I appeared anywhere they would look down on me. Thank God things have moved on.
– Ginette McDonald reflects on changing attitudes to her satirical comic creation Lynn of Tawa, Otago Daily Times, August 2008

– Lynn of Tawa (Ginette McDonald) starts her show with her 'thank you' list
We meet Sid Wallace, Tawa's answer to Howard Morrison and if we've got time we'll have Howard Morrison's answer to Sid Wallace.

Now, when are you going to interview Mervyn Kemp?
– Lynn (Ginette McDonald) asks British celebrity interviewer Michael Parkinson the question on everyone's lips
