For the music video for Rockstar (Yeah Yeah), Rubicon decided to do things a little differently. Standing in an all white room (apart from the lead guitarists brunette flowing dreads) the members start throwing balloons of colour at their surroundings and eventually at each other, leaving the room in pieces in true rock band fashion. Perhaps it was this Rockstar attitude that grabbed the attention of US listeners, landing the track on America's 2003 R+R Speciality Artists Top 20 Chart alongside legendary international artists such as The Strokes. Directed by longtime art director Gareth Edwards, this music video is a familiar one among New Zealanders.
I really appreciate that a lot of thought has gone into the execution of the paintstravaganza. It’s not just a random freak-out and the video looks good for that.– Robyn Gallagher writes about this video, 5000 Ways to Love You website, 27 August 2013
