Rūrangi

Film (Trailer) – 2020

We’re not interested in seeing another story told about us, any more transition stories, trauma or tropes. These are so often about how other people see us, how other people experience us. We want to see stories on screen made by us.
– Rūrangi writer and co-producer Cole Meyers, on the NZ International Film Festival website
Productions like Rūrangi provide a platform for trans people to see themselves in narrative and in pop culture, but also represents and validates trans people as respected and talented human beings to the general public. It's a lot harder to hate and hurt people you fully see.
– Writer Cole Meyers on the kaupapa of Rūrangi, in a 23 June 2020 press release on website Scoop
It’s a generous and heartful story of homecoming and identity led on-screen by the truly electric Elz‌ ‌Carrad as Caz.
– Flicks reviewer Rachel Ashby, 1 July 2020
