In Only Son, Sydney (Josh Thomson from The Panel) tries to court the girl of his dreams, but is hampered by unwanted advice from his dead father (Ian Gordon). This short comedy was made for — and won — the 2010 48Hours filmmaking competition. The bawdy rom-com twist on the father-son relationship came from prolific production team The Downlow Concept (7 Days, Hounds and several 48Hours successes). Only Son went on to compete at the 2010 Qantas Awards, against films that had taken much longer to make. It won for Best Short and Best Screenplay — the first time a 48Hours film had done so.
