The coaster Breeze, and her crew, were immortalised in this National Film Unit documentary. Written by poet Denis Glover and narrated by Selwyn Toogood, rhythmic and lyrical commentary accompanies the Breeze’s run from Wellington to Lyttelton then to Wanganui. The film was directed by Cecil Holmes, who would later lose his job after after being the victim of the infamous ‘satchel snatch’ smear campaign that accused him of communist leanings. He was reinstated after a court case, but shortly left NZ for a successful directing career in Australia in 1949.
