Dead Certs

Television (Full Length) – 1995

Made for Montana Sunday Theatre, Dead Certs provides starring roles for talents Rawiri Paratene and Ginette McDonald. Paratene won an NZ Television Award for his acting, and also co-wrote the script (with director Ian Mune), which Paratene began writing while he was on a Burns Fellowship. He plays Hare Hohepa, whose dreams of a winning bet that will allow him to escape his down and out existence take an unusual turn: his forthright friend Martha (McDonald) unexpectedly expires after some drinks, only to return in ghostly form, hoping his bets can pay for her funeral. So begins a dream run at the TAB.

Not one favourite's won a single race. Now the law of averages says roughies can't go on winning. Number eight — she's just the ticket.
– Hare (Rawiri Paratene) decides his next bet
