Headliners - The World's Fastest Indian

Television (Excerpts) – 2004

In this report for entertainment news show Headliners, reporter Mary Durham is in Invercargill, where director Roger Donaldson and his crew are making movie The World's Fastest Indian, based on the "extraordinary" achievements of motorcycle veteran Burt Munro. Durham interviews line producer Murray Francis in front of a replica of the "***tty" old shed where Munro lived and worked. They visit Oreti Beach where Munro ran test runs before his record-breaking land speed attempts in the salt flats of Utah. Beating out younger competitors, he amazed the world on an old bike modified with homemade parts.

And he went to America, where he was dismissed as a foolish old dreamer from nowhere, and he created a motorcycle that beat everybody. That was his whole life, and that's what the genius of the guy is — that he did this out of that shed.
