Four Kiwi kids and their families around New Zealand open their doors to share the unique ways they all celebrate Christmas. This documentary looks at family traditions, both old and new, and the excitement — and occasionally heartache — that comes with the season. In Auckland, George acts in the Tongan Church’s annual nativity play, while Dudley (later, musician Dudley Benson) sings with the choir at Christchurch Cathedral. Further north, Sarah and her family in Paihia stand to watch the Queen's televised Christmas message, and in Opononi Christie’s family celebrates the day by camping with a hāngī.
While the rocks are heating up we got all the food prepared. We got all the potatoes and the kumaras, got the chicken ready, do the cabbage and even my uncle Tommy caught a pig for today.– Christie from Opononi on preparing a Christmas day hāngī with her family (37:52)
