Spot On - Cow Appetites

Television (Excerpts) – 1983

In this short item from beloved children's show Spot On, the appetites of cows go under the microscope. Scientist Lindsay Matthews discusses the findings of his thesis on cow cuisine, and answers the question; do cows really want to be eating grass? Alongside presenter Helen McGowan, Matthews explains an experiment in which cows are given two options for food, with clear results. Animal expert Lindsay Matthews went on to publish many more findings on cow behaviour, while McGowan was a Spot On co-host for five of the show's 14 years.

Well we like to think they're very intelligent. As you've seen, they've learned quite a complex task to actually obtain their own food.
