Episode One — 'Whassup?!'
The Saumalu family is introduced, as grandfather Tigi (Ben Taufua) is honoured for his years of work at the local factory. At the ceremony his son Kavana (Aleni Tufuga) spots a poster for a South Auckland business talent quest offering a $50,000 prize, and factory owner Keith (Cameron Rhodes) is keen for the family to represent the company on stage.
Episode Two — 'Gafa'
The Saumalu family excitedly plan their talent show entry, but not everyone is feeling confident. Losa (Rasela Sosoli) receives a disappointing exam result, Tavita (Taofia Pelesasa) looks for extra work, and Moana (Maiya Thompson) is spending time with the factory accountant’s son Dev (Shaan Kesha). A family meeting takes an unexpected turn.
Episode Three — 'Sexy Time'
Tensions rise at home as mother Lilly (Anapela Polataivao) challenges Kavana over Tigi’s determination to decide the family's talent quest song choice. Tavita is working late, while the family focuses on preparing costumes for the performance. Making the act their own is feeling increasingly difficult for the younger Saumalus.
Episode Four — 'Umu'
The Saumalu family return home to find their oven dismantled and their grandfather building a umu in the backyard for the family gathering. Neighbour Api (Tavai Fa'asavalu) tries again to recruit Losa to join his band for the talent quest. Tavita begins to realise his new job may be riskier than he first thought.
Episode Five — 'Paua Struggle'
The first round of the X Factory competition is underway as the family waits backstage for their turn. But Tavita is caught up in a tense deal with a seafood buyer, racing against the clock to reach the stage in time, as Moka (Milly Grant) engages in a battle of insults.
Episode Six — 'Showtime!'
Tavita secures the pāua deal and arrives just in time to join the family on stage. The Saumalu family deliver their performance and revel in its reception, but the judges offer a surprising verdict. Later, Moka's dad Mason (Vela Manusaute) drops by with congratulations and a thoughtful gift.
Episode Seven — 'Sh*t Salad'
After receiving feedback to modernise their performance, the family clashes over direction, with Tigi pushing for something even more traditional. At the same time, factory boss Keith is negotiating the sale of the business, putting everyone's jobs at risk. Tigi and Kavana confront Keith, while the family prepares for an uncertain future.
Episode Eight — 'Time to Shine'
With the factory’s future in doubt, the kids busk to raise money and support for workers while questioning whether the talent quest still matters. Dev encourages Moana to take a bold stand, leading to a risky plan at the factory that quickly goes wrong. Will they face the consequences together?
Episode Nine — 'Ballbag'
During Dev and Moana's late-night protest mission at the factory, Dev finds evidence of Keith fudging the numbers on financial reports — just the leverage the pair need to save themselves. Soon after, Keith comes to the factory with an announcement, and Moana has an announcement of her own for the family.
Episode Ten — 'No Butter Chicken'
Moana’s surprise engagement to Dev throws the Saumalu family into chaos. Dad Kavana wants to send her to Samoa, while mum Lilly believes matters can be handled at home. But Dev is the most stunned of all, as he's already promised to someone else. Moana is determined to win him back.
Episode Eleven — 'Summer Love'
Moana’s plans to win Dev over may have stalled, but the pair have been making sweet music together anyway. Moana seeks out her grandfather's forgiveness and advice. Inspired by the young couple's new song the family sees potential for their next X Factory entry.
Episode Twelve — 'Saumalu Soldiers'
Feelings are developing between Moka and Tavita. Meanwhile, the Saumalu family is backstage, preparing for the semifinals, when neighbour and rival contestant Api takes the stage with a shocking rip-off of the family’s new song. If they want to stand a chance at winning, the Saumalu clan must rush to put together a new performance. Tavita has an idea.
Episode Thirteen — 'Datz Not Us'
After securing their spot in the semifinals, the family is reeling over their stolen song. They go to speak with Api, but his lawyer mother defends him fiercely. Meanwhile, rehearsals continue and Tavita attempts to have a serious conversation with Moka about their relationship, but it doesn't go quite as planned.
Episode Fourteen — 'Rum & Murder'
When a theft at the pawn shop prompts Moka’s dad Mason to review the security footage, he’s shocked to discover the theft occurred while Moka was distracted by a kiss. Meanwhile, Tavita’s father has reached his own awkward conclusions about his son’s love life. Tensions collide when Mason shows up at the family's house ready to defend his daughter's honour.
Episode Fifteen — 'Now Who’s the Dick?
As the Saumalu family is busy preparing for the X Factory semifinals, Tavita and Moka are caught red-handed by their competition rival Api. With evidence of their dodgy seafood dealings in hand, Api takes it to a higher power.
Episode Sixteen — 'Billy the Kid'
Facing disqualification after evidence of his seafood scam surfaces, Tavita is barred from performing in the talent quest. The family is scrambling for a solution when their youngest, Billy (Isope 'Akau'ola), volunteers to take Tavita’s place. With the group's place in the competition on the line, it's Billy's turn in the spotlight.
Episode Seventeen — 'Fessing Up'
After their semifinals performance, the Saumalu family is on edge waiting to find out the results of their efforts. Rival X Factory competitor Api’s stolen song is exposed by his own mother, while Tavita and Moka must face the music for their fishy business deals.
Episode Eighteen — 'Teardrops'
With Api’s band seemingly out of the finals, young Billy advocates for Api to be given a second chance. Focus is back on the search for a song to perform, but during practice Tigi suddenly falls ill and is rushed to hospital, forcing the family to reconsider where their priorities lie.
Episode Nineteen — 'For Grandpa'
While Tigi remains hospitalised, the family prepares to perform the song he wrote for his own father for the finals. Api and Losa share an uneasy truce. Backstage, Tavita decides at the last minute to reshape the family's final performance.
Episode Twenty — 'Datz Us'
After their performance, the Saumalu family all gather at the hospital to share their stage recording with grandfather Tigi. Outside, the family learns where they've placed in the competition, but reading the fine print reveals conditions attached. The episode ends with outtakes from filming the series.
