How can we bring this wonderful little clip back? Perhaps as suggested, at 7.30 or so when the wee ones go to bed. It's too good to be left in a file somewhere!

When the tv broke down, the kiwi tripped over a cable and had stars swirly round his head.

Nobody has the still shots of the kiwi that used to come on during breakdowns. I'd love to see them again.

This is a great memory. But Kiwis are nocturnal! I'm sure they dont go to sleep at night. Isn't this whole idea fundamentally flawed?

I'm intrigued by Damien Service' comments about the 'earlier' Goodnight Kiwis. I was overseas & didn't see the early TV2 version, but I wonder who produced those? Do you have any more detail Damien? Anyone?

Now into his 90s, Sam Harvey is still mentally sharp, active, & a pleasure to be around. With beginnings in Nthn England & Glasgow, he migrated to NZ after WW2, and just 'fitted right in'. He built some of his own equipment, and made a fine career in photography, animation & advertising. He 'mentored' many of our characters... Record some of your story please Sam!

No, I'm just a TV buff who picks up bits and pieces of info here and there.

I've also purchased early TV One and South Pacific Television openers and idents and various items through Trade Me and second hand stores.

I guess basically you could actually me a collector and amateur historian.

Thanks for your email. We’ll change the wording on that section of the Goodnight Kiwi clip pronto - since as you point out, the animated Kiwi first appeared on New Zealand TV screens long before this clip.

From the informed nature of your comment, we’re wondering if you might have been involved in the Kiwi’s evolution in some way. If that is so, it would be great to hear from you if you had any more information you could share with us.

The info on the clip's page states "The original goodnight kiwi", however this is actually incorrect as there were two earlier versions.

One was a very crudely done clip in 1975 for TV2, which was updated a year later when TV2 became South Pacific Television and see the Kiwi sleeping in a camera.

I'm hoping NZOnScreen can obtain the two other clips for the site so that viewers can see the evolution of the Goodnight Kiwi.
