Give It A Whirl 3 - The Summer of Love (Episode Three)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2003

As the 1970s roll in New Zealand follows global music trends, and local bands explore their own artistic visions. In this episode of Give It a Whirl the Finn brothers recall attending the 1970 Ngāruawāhia Festival, where drugs were plenty and clothing was optional. Space Waltz shock TV audiences but their glam hit 'Out on the Street' makes number one anyway. Hello Sailor and Dragon deliver homegrown rock n roll with the attitude to match, and Split Enz makes it to punk era England, polarising pop audiences. And Dragon conquers Australia, only to crash and burn in America, with success proving dangerous to some of its members.

We went through a whole bunch of managers, because we were sort of unmanageable, really.
– Dragon bassist Todd Hunter
