Owen Hughes

Welsh-born Owen Hughes segued directly from university to a job at Wellington production company Pacific Films. Since establishing his own company Frame Up Films in 1977, Hughes has produced 40 plus documentaries, and many dramas. En route, he has nurtured the talents of a number of emerging talents, including directors Niki Caro, Fiona Samuel and Jessica Hobbs.

For a screen-struck schoolboy in the 1960s, the prospects of a New Zealand film industry, let alone a professional career, was a mirage. To have enjoyed both has been both a delight and a wonder.
