Episode One - Orange Sky
Journalist and former rough sleeper Six presents this series, sharing the stories of people experiencing homelessness around Auckland’s Karangahape Road. She visits mobile laundry and shower service, Orange Sky. She also speaks with Howard, who once lived in his van with two dogs, and reflects on the difference Orange Sky made to his mindset. Six also meets Paolo, a current user of the service, who explains how Orange Sky supports his nomadic lifestyle.
Episode Two - Raymond
Six meets Raymond, a peer support worker who works directly with people living on Karangahape Road. Raymond speaks candidly about his own experience of homelessness, and how grief, addiction, and prison led him to the streets. Based on his lived experience, Raymond explains the importance of empathy when supporting others currently experiencing homelessness.
Episode Three - HomeGround
Six attends the opening of HomeGround, a purpose-built apartment complex developed by Auckland City Mission. She meets resident Dave, who has found stability after experiencing homelessness. City Mission staff Linda and Jacqui show Six around the facility, explaining how the design of HomeGround promotes community, wellbeing, and healing.
Episode Four - The Māori Wardens
The Māori Wardens are volunteers providing community support across Aotearoa. Six meets wardens Joanne and her sister Marina, both working on K' Road. Joanne shares her journey through sexual abuse, addiction, and homelessness, to finding purpose as a volunteer. Marina reflects on how their family stood beside Joanne during this time in support.
Episode Five - Sunday Blessings
Co-founder of community meal service Sunday Blessings, Danielle Le Gallais meets with Six to share her experience of homelessness while raising two young boys, and studying law. Danielle explains how Sunday Blessings began and how the group tackles both food waste and hunger. Politician Chlöe Swarbrick talks about the programme’s impact.
Episode Six - Foundations
Six records a conversation with Laura, who has recently been housed at the Day Street apartments, for the K Road Chronicle podcast. They reflect on the housing project's initial community pushback. Six speaks with Tui Gallagher from Te Whare Hīnātore about the support offered to residents, while Chlöe Swarbrick discusses reducing stigma around social housing. Jamey from the K Road Business Association reflects on how the community can embrace change.
Episode Seven - Six Goes to Hamilton
Returning to her hometown, Six revisits night shelter Te Whare Korowai, where she stayed in Hamilton. She speaks with manager Joanne about how the shelter has adapted to better support gender-diverse residents. Six also meets Slay, who has their own experience of homelessness and now works at Rainbow Hub Waikato. They discuss the challenges of being transgender while homeless.
Episode Eight - Six Goes Home
Six reflects on her journey, from coming out as transgender and experiencing homelessness, to finding shelter and studying journalism at Waikato Institute of Technology. Visiting her mum, the two share an emotional conversation about identity, resilience, and support. Six’s mum reflects on her own journey coming to terms with Six’s transition and being there to support her.
