In the 90s SPOT was an acronym for the Services and Products of Telecom – and Spot was a much loved Australian Jack Russell terrier. He starred in 43 different Telecom commercials made between 1991 and 1998 — many of them on an epic scale and seemingly at risk to his life or limb. Special mention should be made of the size of the Yellow Pages shoot, apparently featuring a warehouse full of chefs, couriers and entertainers — and of Spot’s considerable arsenal of tricks from skateboard riding to orchestra conducting. Spot died in Sydney in 2000 at age 13.

I do remember one final telecom SPOT tribute ad when he passed away, and it showed on all channel's at the same time. Could someone dig up that final ad please?

What a great post, this is really new information to me and I love it.

I remember there was a political cartoon featuring Spot (maybe) shortly after Telecom announced a round of redundancies. A Telecom van has swerved off the road, onto the footpath and run over a Jack Russell terrier. The caption is the passenger commenting to the driver, "What if it wasn't Spot?"
