Monte Video and the Cassettes , Music Video – 1982

from the album Monte Video (1983)

Looking like Borat out on the town, Monte Video invaded the charts back in 1982. Dangerously catchy, the epically-named novelty song was written by — and starred — veteran musician Murray Grindlay. It got to number two in the Kiwi charts, 11 in Australia, and was released in the United Kingdom and the United States. Chart show Ready to Roll found itself playing host to a hedonistic video shot at Ponsonby's Peppermint Park nightclub, with scenes of flagrant alcohol and tobacco use, and a seductive cross-dresser or three. Monte Video's only album featured song 'You Can't Stop Me Now', which sounded like a threat.
