Synopsis

In Poppy two Kiwi soldiers discover a baby in a muddy WWI trench. For Paddy it will lead to redemption amidst the hell of war. From a David Coyle script — based on his great-grandfather’s war story — Poppy was another successful computer-animation collaboration between producer Paul Swadel and director James Cunningham (Infection, Delf). CGI evokes a bleak Western Front landscape on which the (motion-captured) human drama unfolds. Cunningham spent over 4500 hours making Poppy; the result was acclaim at Siggraph, and invites to Telluride and SXSW festivals.

very touching...I can't imagine how hard it was for our men who fought for us and then to come across children like poppy who were orphans..God Bless those the men, women and children from that era and to those who may still be alive today.

Quotes

An innovative combination of motion capture with exquisite facial animation.
I think the medium of CGI has a lot more potential beyond just animations for kids and visual effects pyro-technics. When partnered with strong stories and great acting it opens up possibilities in telling stories that might otherwise be too difficult or not possible at all. I would like to push those boundaries.
